  • Under the Sweater Weather

Date: 2005.05.19 | Category: Knitting Without Needles | Response: 0

Well it seems that the arms have grown on my sweater a little bit. They are a tad bit long!
Oh well. Other than that it seems fine. I’ll have to post a picture later. feeling a bit under the weather and not up for a photo op! You all want to see a happy person in the sweater. Besides I might play with the back seam a bit it looks a little bunchy.
I get to open my birthday package tommorrow. Or tonight at midnight!!
We also are going out tommorrow! The kids will go to our friends house for some kid fun and s’mores! We will hopefully see the next installment of Star Wars! Hopefully I will be feeling better by then.
    Denise out.

  • Frogging, seaming, writing!

Date: 2005.05.18 | Category: Knitting Without Needles | Response: 0

Well I had a meeting last night so nothing got done with the sweater! Frankly I was soo disgusted after seaming the arm on the sweater inside out that I didn’t want to pick it up again! Tonight more meetings so It will have to wait til Thursday. Write up the final touches on the pattern over the weekend for a Monday release!!

The lovely handles shown in the last entry got knit into the book book book project then frogged back out again. They are just too big, I need 6 inchers but I forgot to take them with me last night to exchange them at Joann’s after the meeting! The good thing is I found the receipt after I got home so now I won’t end up with a $.30 Joann gift card!

Poor Azia has a cold and every time she gets one she gets this awful croupy cough! So it was a long night.

With the internet access going in an out I did get to sit down and get some writing done! They came and put in a new cable line to the house and even burried it (so no more tree trouble!) But it didn’t help!

Yeah! Brian just called! The microwave is fixed!

  • Sweater Weather… etc..

Date: 2005.05.16 | Category: Knitting Without Needles | Response: 1

Well it was a busy weekend. My internet cable connection hasn’t been reliable this last week so it has been quite annoying! My sister in law graduated with her Master’s degree!
Here she is in her robes with FIL!

    Go Amanda!

I have assembled the ingredients for the second book book book project! What are we thinking here.. looks pretty interesting eh?

    Yummy combination!

The weather is COLD! Luckily I have this cute hat to keep me warm.

    Ooooh super hip mama!

Oh, am I avoiding the sweater refernce in the title?

Oh yes, this came today! The first of my birthday packages! Super cool! I know this one is FULL of yarn. I know there are 1000 yards of ivory fingering weight handspun alpaca in here! That is just dying to become a Branching Out scarf. There is also some mystery yarn that she found, something she thought was sooo cool she HAD to get it for me.

    I wanna open it!

I am resisting! I am being good! Azia says I can’t open it till Friday! Jaxom and Julian say open it! Open it! Caleb is oblivious! I put in a call to my Mother to ask permission! We will see what she says!

Oh, you say I still havn’t gotten to the sweater reference? Oh dear what was I thinking?

Well let’s say I got some good seaming practice last night during the Survivor finale.

    Here is the result.

    Hmmmmm

You say oh! That looks good! Why such a sad expression? Is it because there is only one sleeve? (No I kinda think it looks cool with one sleeve) Is it because the sleeve is a bit too long? (No, I like em that way, and I expect it to shrink some as the swatch did)
Is it all those bills in the mail organizer? (No, actually we are almost free and clear of deblt!!)

Well here have a closer look:

    Grrrrrrrr

    Do you see it now?

Perhaps it will be done before this lovely sweater weather passes. The weatherman says I have a week.

  • Lost!

Date: 2005.05.14 | Category: Knitting Without Needles | Response: 4

Well I have finished knitting the hat.. wore it to the tea this afternoon. The sweater is waiting to be seamed. Brian took the camera to Pennsylvia to his sister’s graduation, so the sweater will have to wait till tommorow perhaps for assembly pictures! And a hat pictures for that matter!

I feel lost! No projects! I guess I better work on book projects! Either that or start the shrug!

    hmmmm

There’s got to be something fun I can make! Mabye I will work on circles! One always does circles when they are lost!

  • Runaway Oven

Date: 2005.05.13 | Category: Knitting Without Needles | Response: 1

Well, we are supposed to be making cookies for the Mother Daughter Tea on Saturday. So between history and art class yesterday we whipped up the dough and let it chill. We are making lemon snowdrops from the tea cookies section of my reprint Betty Crocker (1950′s) cookbook. (how can one resist a cookbook with a recipe for emergency steak?)

Well all was well, after art class we put the cookies in the oven. Now, this cookbook was written in a time when ovens were a little different so I know to keep an eye on things and that the baking times and temps may need to be adjusted. So I set the timer on the first batch to be a little short, they weren’t done so I left them in a few more minutes. Well the bottoms burnt  Ok. Not a big deal, try again.
In went the second batch. When about 3/4 of the time had gone by I started smelling smoke! Then the oven started beeping! I ran in to see 16 lovely charcoal briquettes in my oven, and F1 flashing on the display! I thought WOW our oven has a smole detector.. either that or it is asking for help!

I grabbed the oven mitts, and opened it up to scorching heat! I was hardly able to get to the tray, I had to try a couple times before I could get to it because of the heat!
I finally got them out, and took the outside and threw them over the balcony into the woods! The pan bent because it was soo hot it had started to melt!

I went back to the oven and tried to turn it off.. It wouldn’t turn off it just kept on going! I thought about pulilng it out from the wall and pulling the plug but the thing was hot! And heavy! I had to run and cut main power to it. I restored power to it avout 15 minutes later and it started to runaway again! so off it went again!

Aparently the code F1 means runaway oven according to the manual.(which was in a pocket behind the oven!) Brian rescued us, he brought home some yummy dinner, and checked out the oven problem thoroughly.

It seems to be fine now. But I don’t know if those lemon snowdrops will get made! Now what?

    On to knitting!
Well despite the excitement, I did get some things done!

The sweater is off the loom, and waiting to be seamed.

    Please ignore the ugly couch!

The Sophie bag is being whipped into shape.

    Look out Secret Sister!

And I am frantically working on the needles knitting a paige boy hat for the Tea. I have the brim done, and felted, and half the hat body done. It’s all decreases from here! No peeks till it’s done! I want to wow you! Then I will just have to put one together for the loom!

So forget Friday the 13th! Thursday takes the (tea) cake!
