Scattagories…

I am feeling rather scattered today..I think it’s allergies. They are making me feel slow and tired and dull! It’s quite annoying, and my poor littlest one seems to feel that way too.

I got the pink square done for the Warming Grace project, and I cast on for a blue square as well.

I got into a test knit I am doing for Isela, ran into a few problems.. she made a few changes and now I have to pull back two rows on that one..

I also got new end peices for the fine gauge loom from Lynne and need to cast on for a hat I am working up for her, it’s gonna be fun!

Plus I got the sock yarn I ordered to continue on my sock on the Extra Fine Gauge sock loom I got!

But then I got some new sock yarn for another idea I wanted to work on the EFG loom so I pulled the other sock off and started  new one..

Are you dizzy yet?

My Dad called late last night and had some bad news.. My uncle died. My Mom’s oldest brother. Uncle Cap was a really nice guy! A farmer by trade and by heart.. I remember when we were young and went out to his farm for the annual family reunion, and had alot of fun every time! His hearty laugh will be missed at the next family get together!

Well no wonder I am feeling scattered? I can’t even get it together enough to post pictures.. Oh  well..

hopefully I will get it together tommorrow and have something exciting to show you all.

Star struck?

Why is it we get so ‘star struck’ and befuddled when we meet someone we admire.. someone ‘famous’? We seem to get all goofy, nervous trip over our words..

After hearing that Brian got tickets to go to a talk by Soledad O’Brien yesterday morning.. I had enough nervous energy to light up NYC I think.

What would I say to her if I had the chance to speak to her. Would I do what I normally do when faced with someone ‘famous’? Which is to act like a complete groupie geek?

I determined that I wouldn’t and so from the moment I confirmed that I would actually be able to have a sitter for the kids and go I ran through my mind what would I say.. how would I say it, what would she say.. and I ran it through different scenarios all day long in the back of my mind.

Still, when the time came, and she walked out of the green room after the talk and was walking toward me I hesitated, I almost didn’t call out.. and ask for a moment of her time.. I almost retreated into that inward awkwardness that haunts me and prevents me from doing a lot of things. But I didn’t, she had said during her talk that as she went around the world that she was inspired by people and I was determined to let her know that she had inspired me to start Purls of Hope.. and to hopefully make a bit of a difference.

So I stepped forward and did it. And it was awesome. I thanked her for keeping the story of the plight of people in Pearlington, MS and other towns effected by Katrina in the forefront. She told me about being there over Easter and that the conditions are still horrible down there. She didn’t know when the piece they are putting together would air but that Angela would know. ( so look for updates here and on the Purls of Hope site soon) She is a genuinely nice, and caring person, who’s heart goes out to the people she reports about.

I am very glad I got the opportunity to meet her, and speak with her even just briefly. And though I have no complete recolection of what I was said.. I think it went ok. and I didn’t do anything embarassing.. or totaly geeky!! Thank you again Brian!!!!

(sorry .. no pic.. Brian had stepped away because he had seen a pair of glasses someone had dropped and came back at the last moment.. and Soledad  reached out and shook his hand as he was just about to ask to take a pic..ah well.. no good deed goes unpunished as they say!)

I did get some knitting done.. I almost finished up my little square for Warming Grace while we waited for the talk to start.. but they kept shifting the seats around and we kept getting to move forward, and ended up sitting right up in front in front of Brian’s boss..(who had given him the tickets) So that’s alright I can get it done while the kids do school work today.. And hopefully make a blue one to send along too. Off to write a little thank you email to Brian’s boss for the tickets!! Later!

Another surprise

Well Brian has done it again. He has surprised me with tickets to go to “an Evening With Soledad O’Brien” It’s part of a lecture series at Akron U. It’s really cool because it was Soledad’s original story on American Morning that inspired my creation of the Purls of Hope project and website. So it’s a good thing!! Thanks Brian!!

I was able to get a sitter for the kids.. now.. what am I gonna wear..and what shall I take to knit(heheh)!!

Hopefully pics and update later!

April Showers Bring…

Flower Dishcloths?

Ok.. I am soo borrowing Lisa’s picture here because yeah I designed these suckers but.. mine.. well let’s just say I messed it up in the last 4 rows (I was watching Survivorman of all things..) And so I just frogged the whole thing having had a peek at it and knowing it worked.

I wanted to get the pattern together in one place now that the Mystery KAL is over..

So here you go!

KIP

Kat has a little contest at her blog so I thought I would play along..

Name 5 places other than your house or a knitting store where you have knit…

1. At the movie theater.. yep.. while the movie was playing!

2. Softball game I was playing in!and at a minor league basball game.

3. In the pre-op room at the hospital while being prepped..

4. Panera restaurant

5. At the church retreat during Bible studies..

So where have you knit in public??

Easter come and gone…

Well I got sick over the weekend. It started with the little guy then moved on to Brian and I. So not too much happened on Easter..

There was a little fun!

And a little too much candy!

Other than that it was pretty low key.

I was supposed to be working on a little test knit for Isela.. but that hasn’t gotten started yet. I did start a square for the Warming Grace project. Just a little mindful, mindless knitting while working on lessons with the kids today.

Well I have a million and one things to do. My Mom and Dad are coming out from California in early May so I need to get some stuff done around here.

More later!
