  • Loose ends..and a hybred..

Date: 2006.05.19 | Category: Knitting Without Needles | Response: 1

Well. Yesterday we had a fun day. We went to this little science museum. There were all kinds of fossils that the kids got to handle and touch. The ‘theme’ of the museum was creation/intellegent design based and it was pretty neat (to my scientist birthparents.. hi guys! heheh..)

There were alot of fun activities outside too! Swings and challenges and even a zip line! Pretty cool!

There was some rain and hail! So it was a bit damp, but we had fun!

I have a bunch of WIP’s that need to get finished and yet I started something new..a hybred of sorts. I am taking the bottom of Soleil and putting it on the top of the Lotus Blossom Tank from IK. The lace patten on the Lotus tank just proved too difficult for me at this point and so I am getting creative!

I found that the largest size of Soleil has the same number of stitches to cast on as the Lotus Blossom Tank so it looks like it will work out!

As for the WIP’s I have only the to to do on my summer sock on my EFG loom, and only a little way more to knit on the brim for the dancing grannies! So I need to get something done! I guess having guests cuts into my knitting time! Ah well.. another weekend and then I will have a few days to relax till my friend Ann and her gang come in for a short visit.

oooh I have to decide where to go for my birthday dinner.. any votes??I’m leaning toward Red Lobster.. or Carraba’s

  • 4 years to 40?

Date: 2006.05.17 | Category: Knitting Without Needles | Response: 6

I was standing in church on Sunday chatting it up during the stand up and greet your neighbors portion of the service.. and I was talking to two ladies who are on the same softball team together. It’s an over fourty women’s softball league and I flippantly commented. “Hey, only four more years and I can join!” Then the wheels started turning. Then the realization hit me.. fourty.. wah.. it sounds .. well … old…

I admit that turning this coming Saturday didn’t phase me.. till I put it in those terms.. only four years to fourty.. All while designing this hat.. for the red hat ladies.. and having to wear a support stocking on my left leg on occasion because of a nasty varicose vein that has started plaguing me since I had Caleb 2 years ago..(an 11 pound baby will have that effect on your legs apparently) it’s all conspiring to make me feel a bit old.. but not really..at least not for four more years..

  • An evening with the ‘rents and updates on Pearlington

Date: 2006.05.16 | Category: Knitting Without Needles | Response: 1

Well my parents came back in from their visiting in NJ with all the family news. We bonded over some tangled yarn…

They will be here till next Tuesday so we are working on getting some things done so we can have a bit of time off from schoolwork to have fun with them! (in the rain..)

Today is focused on getting schoolwork done with the kids, and getting ready for the pampered chef party.

I just got an update from Angela, there is a peice airing tonight on Anderson Cooper 360 about Pearlington, MS.

    Here is what Angela writes:

Thank you for your continued interest in the situation in Pearlington, Mississippi. I was just there again last month and there remains much to be done. There is still no grocery store, no school, no Post Office – no infrastructure. However, due to the press coverage, there are many volunteers doing what they can. Yet, families continue to fall through the cracks in the absence of any formal plan for Pearlington. So, the people – with the help of random volunteers – continue to fend for themselves almost 9 months after the worst disaster to hit US soil.

There are serious environmental concerns that remain, including concerns regarding the soil in which children play and the water which they drink. CNN joined me in Pearlington last month to address many environmental concerns. They taped 2 segments, one of which aired yesterday morning on American Morning with Soledad O’Brien. Given the quickly changing news cycle, I was not even aware of the air day and time until after it was shown. (I will soon have it loaded onto my website.) However, tonight, on Anderson Cooper 360, the Pearlington segment will re-air along with the other environmental segment which CNN filmed. “AC 360″ is shown on CNN at 10:00 PM EST. Please watch and spread the word that the Gulf Coast is not OK. The people of Pearlington and so many other poor, rural, overlooked communities need as much of our support 9 months after the fact as they did 9 weeks after.

    Continuing in Peace and Justice,

    Angela

And here is a finished object! Not alot of that going on around here!

Pattern:Ballet T from Loop D’ Loop, Teva Durham

    Yarn: Rowan Holiday

    Needle: size 15
Gauge: 3 sts. per inch, Which was off the gauge called for big time..
Started: May 10, 2006                                           Finished: May 13, 2006                                                  Notes: I fiddled with the numbers and followed the directions for the larger size, added a few stitches to the underarm and it all worked out!

I also ripped out 1400 stitches yesterday.. yep.. I started the Lotus Top from Interweave knits and got through 7 rows and the first two rows of lace were already messed up!  I was going to tink back two rows but decided that 5 of those rows were easy knitting so I just ripped it out.

The bad news is… one of my wooden looms got crushed under the couch.. It’s too painful even to show you.. It can be fixed it’s not too bad.. but It’s kinda sad!

Let’s see next up the dancing grannies get their footing… I have worked out the brim and it’s working up pretty quickly so they will be dancing around in the washer for a bit of felting!

I’m having a pampered chef party tommorrow night! Drop on by! Or heck.. outside orders accepted.. they ship!

  • Killer headache at two o’clock captain!!

Date: 2006.05.14 | Category: Knitting Without Needles | Response: 2

Well my day started out well enough. A nice Mother’s day pot of coffee and a pair of hanging baskets with flowers in them for my present. Hey .. I even got a shower! Poor Jaxom was sick.. he came downstairs and fell asleep on the couch with his brothers and sisters zooming around him. So he needed his Mommy!!.

It was all good. Then after church I got hit with a killer headache. Ouch!

Oh well. Isela sent me a nice Mother’s Day e-card.. I myself didn’t even get to talk to my Mother.. either one..hehe one of these days I have to lay out my soap opera tale of two mothers here. I tried.. I called my Mom yesterday… they are staying at my Aunt’s house in NJ, will be back here tomorrow for a week long stay.. and I tried to call my Mother today but only got the answering machine.. bad luck! I might be in double trouble!! eek.

Well off to try to sleep off the rest of this headache.. I might just take some of the good stuff to kill it outright! I’ll try to get pictures of my pretty flowers, and the finished ballet T later on!

Hope all you mothers out there had a great Mother’sDay!
