• The fast and ugly pattern…sandal sockies

    I tell ya.. You make a little thing for a little challenge by a person and then they wanna know how you did it. So remember this?

    Here you go.. how I made it.

    Loom: Decor Accents Extra Fine Gauge Sock loom (mine is the 9 inch size.)

    Ok. This loom gets a gauge of 7 stitches to the inch. So I measured around my big toe and it was 3 inches round.. (yeah I couldn’t believe it either)

    So that meant I needed 21 stitches to make the toe part.

    So I cast on 21 stitches with teh cable cast on, and worked it as a flat peice for an inch. Then I snipped off the yarn leaving a 3 inch tail.

    Ok.. then I cast on the rest of the stitches remaining. I knit those in a flat peice for an inch as well, though I probably could have gone 3/4 of and inch and been a bit better for my stubby little toes.

    Then I just started on the next row knitting in the round. I went till the whole thing was 3 inches total. Then cast off.

    Then I turned it inside out and seamed up the between the toes area in a whip stitch seam.. starting from the tip of the big toe, down and then back up to the other opening. I used a whip stitch because it would be a nice flat seam and wouldn’t add bulk between the toes!

    That’s it!

    Due to the stretchy nature of the Casscade Fixation, I didn’t feel the need for any ribbing anywhere. But If you use regular sock yarn  be sure to add some 1×1 ribbing for about a half and inch at the start for the toes, and again a half an inch worth at the end of the foot part.

    I think you could get about 2 pairs or more out of one skein of the yarn. It really didn’t take that much. One of these days I will work it out with toes.. rumor has it I have a small gauge wonderloom out there with my name on it.. that will probably be the best thing to work on toe socks with! Enjoy!

    I will work out a more detailed tecnical do this swatch that pattern later and throw it into a pdf.. but for now I have to get dinner in the oven!
