Cooking Disasters ala Scout!

Ok so I posted already today.. but hey I must obey Scout!

First let me say that I cannot believe it is snowing in NM!! Isn’t it like warm there all year long?? I am sooooo not moving there!

Oh well knock that one off my list.

Ok. My worst cooking disaster.. hmm there are so many to share.. I am really not a bad cook…really (hmm maybe I should turn the comments off on this one) Well I will tell you my most public one!!

Way back in once upon a time time.. back when I was kid free (well almost…) and care free..(ok that’s a joke I was assistant director of a daycare/Headstart that had about 120 kids enrolled) I was the one who was supposed to bake the pumpkin pies for big family Thanksgiving dinner. It was Thanksgiving Eve, and I had barely gotten home from work when they called. (I lived within walking distance.. lucky me)  A large light fixture had fallen from the ceiling, and the LIVE wires were hanging down sparking.. there was water dripping from the ceiling, nah..pouring from the ceiling..

o………k

I was 6 months pregnant.. so Brian naturally would not let me go handle this by myself. So off we went to the rescue. Indeed.. it was A MESS!

We quickly found the correct breaker in the breaker box to cut off the power. Went upstairs and found that the one toilet had totally overflowed and the whole bathroom was flooded. The water had found it’s way through the floor and into the light fixture.. which filled up with water then came down with a crash.

Brian bravely started bailing the bathroom, while I ran and made the appropriate phone calls. By the time our relief came we had pretty much gotten all the water up from the bathroom at least. And I still had pies to bake..

We rushed home, I got to work on the pie crusts and sent Brian out to get the filling ingredients some much needed dinner and some other things..

He brought  it home and I thinking he got the stuff that you split between two pies.. and not looking.. split the filling between two pies and baked.. we ended up with basically two giant pumpkin crackers.. and no time to make new ones..

But dang it! We took them anyway!

Next time.. perhaps I will tell you the story of my famous flaming garlic bread!!

Our Group it is a growing!!!

Last night was Stitch n B* and our usual population of 2 grew to 5  + a visitor!

Ashley and I were there, Laura brought Jorge.. Jason.. Jacamo whatever we are calling him.. and Susan came from my invite at my DH’s office party. So we had a good time.. And Laura’s husband stopped by and even dropped off some yarn for her! Isn’t that sweet..!

Here is Jorge.. I sooooo stole this pic from Laura..

He is MUCH further along on this scarf now. Its about 18 inches long! And it’s not all wonky like usual beginner knitter things! Jorge definitely has some knitterly potential..

Overheard at my house:

“Angels live inside Rainbows..” Caleb 3 too cute I think we will keep him..
