To Each Their own..or How do you loom?

My editor called out of the blue yesterday and posed a question to me that she had been asked by the teachers at one of the ‘big box’ craft stores. Apparently they were doing knitting loom classes, using the Knifty Knitter, and had my book. Their question was.. why were my directions opposite of the ones in the package of the Knifty Knitters? Was I left handed?

Well the answer was no.. I may have been at one point but ‘they’ fixed that in kindergarten.. no honestly I wrote the directions the way I learned to loom and the way I have been looming all along.� I work around the loom clockwise.

I told her.. and in my experience this is true… that the majority of loom knitters do it that way. That the independant loom makers out there have their instructions that way. She concurred that the In the Attic Loom instructions are written that way as well.

So I put the question out there. How do you loom? Do you work around the loom clockwise or counter clockwise?

I think the whole reason I knit clockwise is that when I take a pen in hand, I write “the cursive e” left to right. Makes sense, doesn’t it?
To every new knitter, I say throw those useless pamphlets away posthaste. They are useless. Better to have your book to follow.

Mostly I knit clockwise. But there are few patterns I go counter clockwise…why?.. I have no idea, I just do Maybe it’s a Canadian thing

Can you tell I’m half sleeping? I meant to say “there are “a” few patterns.” Okay time for me to call it a night, gosh it’s only 8:30, I AM getting old! LOL

THanks for the comment on my blog. I think your swift idea was totally brilliant! And worked beautifully as well. I wound up 4 skeins that I had been dreading having to wind since I had been putting them over chair backs and it was always nerve wracking. So thank you so much for the idea! I have always wrapped looms counter-clockwise. IT just feels easier doing that way for me than the other direction.

Counterclockwise…Don’t know if it’s because I’m a lefty or not, but I always have gone counterclockwise. For some reason, clockwise feels awkward to me!

I wrap and knit counterclockwise. I don’t know why, I guess it’s just the way I learned to loom.

I wrap and knit off clockwise. I have done it counterclockwise but am most comfortable working clockwise.
