Frugal Friday: A Little Wenlan Chia, anyone?

Don’t you just love a bargain? Come on you know you do! I played hooky last night from my knitting group (sorry Sara!!) and hit every thrift shop in town. Having grown tired of the usual outfits I have for church, I was in search for something new. I found some good stuff, and here is the find of the night.

This is a XXL 100% wool sweater coat from the GAP. And you know me ALL I saw was YAAARN!!

I have been dying to do some patterns by Wenlan Chia, a.k.a. Twinkle, and this fits the bill! For $8.50 I have enough yarn here to make at least one, if not two sweaters, for half the price of one ball of yarn!

Score!!

Okay, this might be a little slow of me, but I never though to buy an old sweater and take it apart. What a fabulous idea. There is a store near me called Dollar-A-Pound where all the clothes are.
But once you take it apart, do you need to wash the wool? Can you knit it all kniked up like that?

Denise, I had my hubby listen to your podcast so that he could hear the song and even he smiled in a ‘trying to conceal it’ sort of way. The part about dropping 10 stitches out of 22….it just reminds us both of my first needle knit afghan where I started out with 60 stitches casted on and within 4 rows I had 70 stitches. I have no idea how I accomplished that. I got it back to the way it was supposed to be (60 stitches) but by the end of the afghan I had only 55 left. I love the afghan, but it was definitely a learning experience!

thAwww, I love the picture of your son holding on to the sweater and sucking his thumb! I have a 5 (he just turned 5 today, the 20 at midnight!) who does the same exact thing! He’ll hold to anything soft he can find, and suck his thumb. He’s even crouched down by our cat while she was eating, and put one hand on her back, and sucked his thumb with the other. Oddly enough, the cat didn’t mind!

Oh my, remind me that if we ever meet to not be wearing anything wool… I fear you ripping it off my back with needles in hand and making some sort of low growling laugh!! Stay back Woman, stay back!
