Yarn Talk
Recently I was able to get my hands on a couple of new to me KnitPicks yarns; Shamrock, and Wool of the Andes Kettle dyed yarns.
I was using them to knit up a sample for their next catalog and thought I would share my thoughts on these yarns.
First up Shamrock. This is a heavy worsted weight yarn and I like it!

Here are the specs:
- Content: 100% Peruvian Highland Wool
- Weight: Heavy Worsted Weight
- Gauge: 4 – 4.5 sts = 1″ on #7 – 9 needles
- Amount: 82 yards/50 gram ball
- Care: Hand Wash/Dry Flat
- Price: $2.49
As a mother of 3 boys, I find that this yarn appeals to me as far as color, and texture for good ‘boy knits’. I could see myself knitting this up in stockinet stitch and not getting too bored. The color variations add interest and texture to what you are knitting all on their own. I also think that the color would not overwhelm any stitch pattern you might work up with this yarn, so it’s a good balance.
My only wish would be that it would be machine washable!
Next up Wool of the Andes Kettle Dyed..

Now while I am no stranger to Wool of the Andes, the Kettle Dye is new to me!
Again.. I like it.. the specs:
- Content: 100% Peruvian Highland Wool
- Weight: Worsted Weight
- Gauge: 4.5 – 5 sts = 1″ on #6 – 9 needles
- Amount: 110 yards/50 gram ball
- Care: Hand Wash/Dry Flat
- Price: $3.49
I find Wool of the Andes to be a great basic yarn! It is easy to work with, not very splitty, felts nicely if you want to felt it, and works well in many applications! Now throw in the subtle color variations of the kettle dye and I like it even better! again it adds that little something extra to get some interest and depth to your project!
I would recommend either of these yarns for any craft: needle knitting, loom knitting and crochet!!!
Hey a little heads up.. I will be starting a little contest on Tuesday! So stay tuned.. it’s going to be sweet!!
