How To’s Day: How to Find a Yarn Shop on Vacation!
It’s been a while since I have done a How To’s Day and so let’s get back into it! In a week and a half I will be going out to Texas to attend my brother’s graduation. We will have a little free time while we are there so I figured that we could do a little yarn crawl.. so I set about searching for what was in the area.
It was slow going till I found a terrific website called Knitmap! It’s like Google maps but specifically for finding yarn and craft related places!
Simply enter in the city and state that you are going to and if you have other specifications.. like if you want stores with wi fi, or spinning supplies etc, and off you go!
It will bring up a map with the locations pinpointed, and when you click on them it will show you a summary of details about the shop! Like this:
You can even access it on your iPhone or iPod Touch if you have one! Just enter www.knitmap.com/iphone and you will be there!
For those of you who are not the electronically inclined.. there is a yarn shop guide printed annually. The Fiber Mania,2009-2010, a Travel Guide for People Who Do Things with String
is a guide of shops and guilds all related to the fiber arts across the country! Since it is updated annually so it should have pretty much the most recent info. In a compact size you can throw it in your car, or suitcase and off you go!

With summer vacations coming up planning some yarn shop time while you travel isn’t such a bad idea.. is it. you know in case of emergency and all…

Bookish Thursday: Faith, Hope, Love, Knitting
Today’s book is by someone I consider one of the guardian angels God has brought into my life. If it weren’t for Lorna Miser suggesting me to the publisher, I would not have gotten my book deal. So thanks Lorna!

It is so natural that Lorna should have written a book about faith and knitting.. it is so very HER! Faith, Hope, Love, Knitting
is a book full of reflections on life and faith and knitting as experienced through Lorna’s eyes. Every pattern comes from a story from Lorna’s life. I have to say, every story is just so very beautiful. When I opened this book and started reading I simply could not put it down. Touching and poignant many of them left me with tears in my eyes.. a good thing.. and a smile on my face.
It’s a keeper!

Bookish Thursday: Socks from the Toe Up.. is the universe trying to tell me something?
I read Wendy Knits blog. So when she started talking about working on a sock book, I certainly wasn’t surprised. She has to be one of THE most prolific sock knitters out there.. aside from the Queen.. yes.. the Yarn Harlot. But I digress.
Wendy has a new book out and man.. it even makes me want to knit socks.. a little.. ok.. at least without someone paying me to do it..

Socks from the Toe Up
is chock full of techniques for making pretty much any style of toe up sock you would want to make. There is a collection of cast ons which covers every type of toe up cast on that has been invented so far! Ditto that on on the bind offs! Heels? She’s got em! Again every type out there is collected and put in this book. How to knit those socks? DPN’s?, two circular needles?, magic loop? It’s in there! This really is an essential guide for knitting toe up socks..
Then there are the patterns…over 20 eye catching patterns that should suite any sock knitters needs. Lace, cables Texture from beginner patterns to more advanced there is enough here to keep anyone busy.
I am hoping to get started on a pair of ‘Dead Simple Lace Socks’. Perhaps I will get through that bin of sock yarn after all..
