Well, we are supposed to be making cookies for the Mother Daughter Tea on Saturday. So between history and art class yesterday we whipped up the dough and let it chill. We are making lemon snowdrops from the tea cookies section of my reprint Betty Crocker (1950’s) cookbook. (how can one resist a cookbook with a recipe for emergency steak?)

Well all was well, after art class we put the cookies in the oven. Now, this cookbook was written in a time when ovens were a little different so I know to keep an eye on things and that the baking times and temps may need to be adjusted. So I set the timer on the first batch to be a little short, they weren’t done so I left them in a few more minutes. Well the bottoms burnt 😳 Ok. Not a big deal, try again.
In went the second batch. When about 3/4 of the time had gone by I started smelling smoke! 😯 Then the oven started beeping! I ran in to see 16 lovely charcoal briquettes in my oven, and F1 flashing on the display! I thought WOW our oven has a smole detector.. either that or it is asking for help!

I grabbed the oven mitts, and opened it up to scorching heat! I was hardly able to get to the tray, I had to try a couple times before I could get to it because of the heat!
I finally got them out, and took the outside and threw them over the balcony into the woods! The pan bent because it was soo hot it had started to melt!

I went back to the oven and tried to turn it off.. It wouldn’t turn off it just kept on going! I thought about pulilng it out from the wall and pulling the plug but the thing was hot! And heavy! I had to run and cut main power to it. I restored power to it avout 15 minutes later and it started to runaway again! so off it went again!

Aparently the code F1 means runaway oven according to the manual.(which was in a pocket behind the oven!) Brian rescued us, he brought home some yummy dinner, and checked out the oven problem thoroughly.

It seems to be fine now. But I don’t know if those lemon snowdrops will get made! Now what?

On to knitting!
Well despite the excitement, I did get some things done!

The sweater is off the loom, and waiting to be seamed.

Please ignore the ugly couch!

The Sophie bag is being whipped into shape.

Look out Secret Sister!

And I am frantically working on the needles knitting a paige boy hat for the Tea. I have the brim done, and felted, and half the hat body done. It’s all decreases from here! No peeks till it’s done! I want to wow you! Then I will just have to put one together for the loom!

So forget Friday the 13th! Thursday takes the (tea) cake!
