Racing a Wee One

Unknown  to my soon to be neice or nephew we are in a race. My SIL went into labor last night, and we have yet to hear if this little one has shown up!

So I have time.. right? I knit this little bib up a while ago from the infamous Mason Dixon Knitting pattern. See how confidant I am it’s a girl??? Isn’t that button cuuute!

But I am not sewing it on yet.. or weaving in the ends. That will slow things down right? In Yarn Harlot’s tradition.. the baby won’t come till the stuff is done..

That is my blanket edging.. this MUST be false labor.. cause this sucker has a bit of work left !

Edited to add: Ut oh it worked! She is headed back home! EEK! Guilt guilt guilt!

I am assuming we will head out once Brian is back from the Akron Marathon. He was volunteering there and was leader of a team of 20 volunteers or else he would have been in the car and out there last night! Ah well the timing is bad.. but babies come on their own time!

And he is still alive…..

My 10 year old son was sitting on the couch with me watching TV. A Victoria’s Secret commercial came on, you know the one for the new Victoria’s Secret’s sexiest push up bra?

Well he said, ” I guess you won’t need one of those.”

I said.. “what? Who are you talking to?”

He said . . . → Read More: And he is still alive…..

Things I havn’t had the chance to blog about!

Way back when, in way back when time.. I made a nice little door mat/ hearth rug as a wedding present for my friend. It all started when I was on the phone with her just before I walked into a thrift store. When I went inside I found this unloved spool of hand spun super bulky wool. It was serendipity! you have to watch out for that!

Here it is..

First I made a strip of garter stitch, it was about 18 inches long by about 6 stitches wide.

Then I cast off all but 3 stitches. I worked an I-cord with those stitches for a while, then switched it to my spool knitter. I knit on that I cord for you know a few weeks off and on.. I just kept laying it out and seeing how it was looking till it looked about right to me.

Then I bound that off and started another garter stitch strip, kept knitting that till I had it long enough to go all the way around and put it all together!

I was still finishing it on the morning of the wedding.

I actually put the final touches on it between the wedding and the reception (there was like a two hour gap and it was close to home)

I ran to Kmart and got some of that Martha Stewart shelf liner stuff.. the rubbery type. (it’s much cheaper than the actual carpet liner stuff)

Grabbed some self stick velcro, and put it all together!I simply trimmed up the shelf liner, stuck some strips of the grabby part of the velcro on it, and stuck it to the underside of the rug!

Easy peasy! And Voila, a nice little hearth rug!

Drop Dead Tired

Well I am drop dead knock me out and let me alone for 20 hours so I can get some rest, tired!

I’ve been running around getting some stuff done for a really cool opportunity, entertaining my parents, trying to deal with a really pervasive computer worm that can’t be gotten rid of so my computer needs to be wiped clean and have everything reinstalled, which is also causing worries that emails are not getting to important people for the cool opportunity…and making this lovely and yummy pumpkin cake..

Of course it could be sugar shock withdraw from our little field trip yesterday..I tried to get a little rest time in this afternoon, but since my children are physically incapable of remaining quiet for more than 2 seconds, it just didn’t work out.

Hopefully tonight I can get back to working on the edging for that baby blanket! The deadline looms!! (pun intended) my SIL will be going in for an induction on the 4th if nothing happens by then..

Azia is working hard to try and get her magic scarf done by Sunday..

And let’s see to top it all off I just got a notice for Jury duty.. so I have to see what I need to do to get out of it!

Would some one just pass me a pillow please.. and some earplugs, and a nice cashmere silk blend hand knit eye mask? PPPPLEASE??

Field trip!!

We took a little field trip today..I am sooo going to owe someone a skein of Socks that Rock at Rhinebeck!

Then and now…

My one skein pal recently shared how she had learned to knit, and how she had progressed to now. In conversations recently this has come up with me and I realise that I have hinted about the ‘ten year scarf’ but never really talked about my own knitting history.

I don’t really remember when I learned to knit. I have knowledge of it but no real memory. I know I had a class in school in about 6th grade, the girls and boys  were split up. I dunno what the boys did, I suppose they went out and helped the teacher change the oil in his car..

We did all kinds of things, we learned to do candlewicking (ooh I am dating myself because it was ultra popular back then), needlepoint, cross stitch and of course knitting. I do remember making an AWFUL orange and yellow scarf for a guy I had a crush on.

Knitting didn’t stick at that point, I liked cross stitch and needle point so I did that. I did that for a while with other bits of craftiness, all items being made for other people as gifts. The only item I have left from all that is this jacket I made in high school.

Then in college my room mate was a big time cross stitcher, her Dad was too. So I picked it up again and got quite good at it. I also tried to knit a scarf for Brian who was then my boyfriend.. It was torturouse..I picked it up and put it down off and on..over ten years! A 12 inch wide thing in garter stitch DK weight yarn, on size 7 needles.. oi.. It is awful.. it was nice and soft yarn, then I washed it and ran it through the dryer! Pure plastic ick acrylic yarn! I still have it, tucked up in the closet, to remind me of what was!Maybe I will dig it out and show it to you some day.. when I am feeling brave!
But once we got married and had a few kids.. well lets just say cross stitch and kids don’t mix!

So I really didn’t to anything for a while! Then Brian gave me some mad money, I bought a set of knitting looms with it. Within an half an hour of recieving it I had a baby hat made..Then in no time I had a baby bootie made! I was hooked! As they say the rest is history!

And just think .. way back when my brother had one of those knitting bobs you know those little things with the four pegs to make cords? I was soo jealous because he could make those cords in a flash and I just couldn’t get it!

Look at me now!!!!
